Our Story
Who We Are

Husband and wife team owners, Marcus and Rita, dreamed of owning an independent, boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Columbia with the freedom to craft a guest experience like no other. When that very opportunity presented itself in 2016,

they dubbed it their Unicorn opportunity because to them, it was truly that. They believe that the Unicorn is a fabulous beast conceived not out of human fear but as a beautiful creation of humankind’s creative, joyful, and ever-powerful imagination.

WHY CHOOSE TRUNDLE?

Traveling is the cornerstone of life. It’s the opportunity to abandon your everyday routine and discover and learn about the world around you. At Hotel Trundle, we believe the hotel you choose is a vital part of that experience—which is why we strive to be more than just a place to lay your head. Dubbed by locals as "the unique boutique," Hotel Trundle offers an eclectic combination of new age and retro design, as well as unsurpassed guest services. Don’t just take our word for it—according to one of our wonderful guest’s reviews, "Once you stay here, you will refuse to stay anywhere else."

The Hotel Trundle Story

From the moment Marcus and Rita first entered the historic Western Auto building, they knew they had uncovered an extraordinary opportunity. What started out as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to renovate three historic buildings into a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel has since become a dream come true.

At Hotel Trundle, Marcus and Rita’s love for Columbia, SC shines through everywhere. It was important for them to foster the voice of the talented array of local artists, craftspeople, restaurants, and small business owners that make up the growing community. From the custom-made mattresses and walnut beds to the fresh coffee, food, and libations, everything is as locally sourced as they could make it. With this practice, they’ve created a network of neighbors who are working together to showcase their city. They live and breathe Columbia, South Carolina.
